A Warrior's Test

He had been through here, time and time again. One didn't simply get to the continent of Mu, which floated deep within the Wave World; it wasn't that simple. No, you had to get past the Bermuda Maze, first.

No matter how many times Blade's gone through the Bermuda Maze, before, though, one thing was always evident. It was like the single absolute in the ever shifting maze, which made it nearly impossible to find its core.

This place was dark.

The wave roads with which you walked on were a dark purple, with strange, ethereal green outlines. Rather than glowing with energy, these roads seemed to accentuate the darkness of the air; light didn't get to you, here, in the Bermuda Maze. The only light you had was that which the waves offered, and it wasn't much. He would always find himself squinting during the first few moments of his time here, waiting for his eyes to adjust before he continued forward.

Today, though, he was here for a different reason. Normally, he would simply follow the Warrior's Path in order to get to the Temple of Mu. This time, he was looking for something else. Rather than being a maze with a single core, this was a maze with two. One was, obviously, the Temple of Mu.

The other, though. . .it was another conduit of awesome power, like a piece of Mu's own strength broken off and cornered away, somewhere else. It was the seal that was placed on Mu long ago, which condemned the continent into outcast beneath the sea. Someone came during Blade's childhood, and released Mu from his bounds.

He wanted to retrace those steps, and find a way to the seal that bound Mu. He wanted to know what sort of power could seal him away. . .and, in a hope of some symbolic test, he wanted to prove himself worthy on that battleground.

At least, that's what he had wanted a long time ago.
What he wanted then, and what he wanted now, aren't the same thing.

Now, he had a new mission. The same power that sealed Mu away still lingers, and carries with it a remnant of its old strength. Just after the Precursor to Ruin, the seal was placed, and Mu descended into the sea. If Blade was right, this very path that he was about to follow was the same path that hundreds of his ancestors traveled before. It was a symbolic path for him to take; something that he believed would bring him closer to the people that he called his own.

Besides, this Maze was once also apart of their land. Why shouldn't he know more about it?

He was on a mission to the center, to follow in the footsteps of his ancestors. Hopefully, this trek would bare with it a deeper look into their history. . .after all, Mu wasn't the only place their history was archived. It was everywhere.

Nothing would stop him.

I'll make sure of it.

In the darkness ahead, there was humming. Low pitched, with a sort of rhythm. There wasn't one hum, but two: the louder, higher pitch, and then a second that imitated a bass guitar. Faint red glowing eyes examined the wave warrior.

Then came the broken signing.

It sounded like an old man with too much flem, emanating from a blue, fur-covered cone. The words weren't easily distinguished, though occasionally a word escaped the mess.

When the Generals talk
You better listen to him

Four pairs of eyes flared up in the darkness, spread in a semi-circle, just a few strides away from the Wave Warrior. In that faint, dark light, blade edges reflected menacingly.

When the Generals talk
You better do what he says

The large, armoured, ax-carrying virus cracked its neck from side to side.

The road between the Maze and Mu was guarded by many, many viruses. Why did he expect this route to be any different?

That's alright, though. He was expecting a battle, a ready for it. This was A Warrior's Test. How else was he going to prove his worth on a battlefield, if not through fighting?

The four pairs of disembodied eyes stared back at him, gleaming an ominous red in the darkened air. The sound they emanated was rather strange. . .he'd never known viruses to hum and sing, like that.

It might've been something to distract him. He was paying more attention to the telltale gleams of swords in the darkness, a grin now played across his face. Shade decided to tap into that hidden reservoir of energy, deep inside of his core. . .

Rogue Form - Active

. . .A reservoir of energy, which fed on his primal instincts. The familiar tingle went through him, as he let up the gates and let the river of power flow. At first, it came slowly, as if the gates were still partially blocking its way. Then, it burst out, flowing into the very fiber of his being, as an aura of darkness all his own permeated from his person.

The power started from his golden Crest of Mu, which took the initiative and shifted to a deep purple. From that point, a wave of darkness washed over his features, darkening his armor into an abyssal darkness, shifting his golden spines into a deep crimson, and even darkening his purple visor. His previously visible, primal orange eyes were no longer visible at all.

The dark energy around him seemed to pull the heat out of the air around him, leaving behind nothing more than cold and desolation. Thus, was the power of Mu. . .would the Maze recognize it?

After his transformation, the darkness of the maze didn't seem all that dark, anymore. The Viruses were a bit more clear to him. . .they didn't look all that familiar, though.

What better time to learn than now?

Shade took a few, tentative steps forward as he studied the viruses before him. One was a large, armored giant with a giant ax to boot. He couldn't help but wonder if his kind was where he got his favorite Battle-Card. . .the idea made him chuckle.

The others consisted of a squat, masked thing with two swords rather arms, a shy ghost-like creature, and a strange statue.

His eyes were set on the big guy, who might've been the biggest threat. Shade held out his right hand, grabbing at previously empty air. When his hand closed, though, the waves around him quickly shifted to his will; he felt their familiar tug, as they tried to resist. Instead, they were pulled into the shape of his desire, and, in his hand, he now wielded his signature weapon - a meter long, silver-edged sword with a crimson handle.

Rather than risk the chance of seeing just how far that ax of his could reach, Shade took to a run forward, using his enhanced speed to get up under it before slashing up at its mid-section. He followed the side-slash through with a spin, going around on his heel to bring the sword around for another, fluent slash.

Afterwords, he took some quick, careful steps back. He didn't want to be right in front of that thing when it started swinging that ax; nor did he want to be so close to it, that he couldn't focus on the other viruses. If training in Whazzap taught him anything, he needed to keep a keen eye on all of them.

He also knew that the form he was in brought with it a lot of physical stress. That was okay, though, as he knew that the Waves around him would sustain him.

The Wave Warrior was different, but how, the virus mob did not calculate. In a simple dash-and-slash, the Wave Warrior disappeared from sight - leaving two gashes in the armoured axe wielder.

Despite the big size, Great Ax turned rather quickly. It grunted and waved the others forward, letting the massive ax rest on its shoulder.

McCleaver, the monochrome sword-armed virus stepped forward, then disappeared in a fast blur. In the next moment, it reappeared in front of the blade-wielder, arms stabbing forward. Left-right-left, each accompanied by a step. Then it jumped back and disappeared...

Left-right-left. While McCleaver handled melee, the artillery paused the music. Opening its mouth, Peek-a-boo burped, sending a small projectile into the air. It clashed with the air, turning the air itself into a rippling wave that was rapidly headed for Blade McSlashdick.

The song had stopped... the viruses aggroed. And in the dim light, the red&gold, katana wielding robed figure continued to breathe into a mask. Kssssshhhh.

His eyes flicked over the little swordsman. When his eyes trailed back, he was gone.

A second later, the little warrior was suddenly in front of him, and he was slashing. Shade instinctively stepped back, but, without much effect; the slash still came at him, well within range, and he saw the blade coming down on him. . .

. . .when, suddenly, a flat, transparent disc with runes carved into it appeared in front of him. The sword bounced off of this shield, completely ineffective. The thing didn't seem too effected by this, though, and kept on keeping on; for him, this meant he continued slashing. With the shield, though, he had a bit more time to gather his thoughts, and took a quick jump back; the virus nicked his leg as he jumped away. Other than that, though, he was fine.

He landed hard, crying out as he landed, having lost a good bit of his balance when the Virus hit him. For a second, he remained on the ground, suddenly feeling something take hold of him. It was something. . .primal. It must've been the adrenaline, again. . .the remnants of his bestial side, peeking through in his Wave Form. Or, perhaps, it was his Murian heritage. . .he wouldn't know. What he did know, though, was that it wasn't to be denied. It had a taste for blood lust, and it wanted more.

. . .Blood. . .

In his case, he'd have to give it to it. A dark aura channeled over his customary blade, his blood lust tapping into his Rogue Form for a new power. The meter long sword with its own engravings elongated, and gained new markings on it. This powerful blade was much stronger than his normal weapon, and was deceptively light. . .it also had a way of appealing to him. He gracefully stood back up, his vision downcast.

The dark aura around the blade didn't dissipate once it was formed. Quite the opposite, actually; its intensity increased. He took a few, slow steps forward, his face shaded over and downcast as his energy and rage built. With the energy he felt, the slight pain in his foot wasn't even noticeable, anymore.

Shade's anger was a calm anger, with a quiet resolve and a silent, icy demeanor. It was still anger, though, and, with that, often came rashness of action. When the pulse of energy came, he leaned out of the way of it, and took a few more steps forward.

He stopped a meter away from the sword-armed virus, shifting his grip on the hilt. He brought up his gaze, his face red and his eyes wild, nothing like the calm demeanor he had a moment ago. His teeth gritted and his rage absolute, he leaped from where he stood, bringing the blade overhead just as he gripped it with two hands.

"Be gone!" he cried out, feeling the need to tell them just how much he didn't like them.

As he started to land, he brought the blade down in front of him, smashing the sword, dark aura still attached, into the ground where the sword-arm virus stood. The weapon came down hard, and, as it hit the ground, the dark aura it radiated seemed to leap eagerly from the silver blade, spreading outwardly like wicked, licking flames.

When the smoke and the dark flames cleared, there was still Shade. He was still in his kneeling position on the ground, only just then bringing his head up to survey the battlefield. He had learned from the last time that simply giving into the rage was easier than fighting it. . .it wasn't always a bad thing, either.

His vision had reddened, though, and he didn't have a good idea towards just what might've been wiped out or joined the fight in the time he had lost. He knew he had attacked, and he knew the basics behind the attack, but, he had lost a good few seconds in simply calming down. His mind was still quite muddled, as he tried recovering from the all-commanding rage that took him.

Impaled, the virus instantly died, split in half from the sheer force of the blade's impact. Unfortunately for the blade-wielder, it was the only one to do so; the ax-carrying warrior merely stepped back. The furry, feral teddy faded from sight. The shockwave licked at the stone-hard body of the katana-armed, but failed to do anything substantive.

In the silence, the armored ax palmed his weapon. A step forward, a horizontal swing of his long axe. It didn't quite have the same punch of the murian's blade, but the extra reach kept him out of harm's way and it would make a dent in any suit of armor.

Monosword, the red&gold soldier, disappeared from sight. Then it appeared in front of the earth-stabbing murian, katana swung vertically. It paused as the blade finished the movement.

The only victim of his powerful strike was the one who hit him, the others effortlessly slipping away.

He took his other hand off of his sword as he stood back up, serveying the battlefield. His head was still a little muddled, but, he knew a threat when he saw one. The ax-wielding warrior took a hop forward, and brought up its ax, ready for a strike. Shade's brain seemed to take a second longer than normal to process what it wanted to do, but, that was almost enough to get him hit; as he pushed down and took a daring jump backwards, the ax warrior went to chopping. It was a clean, but close, miss.

As he flew back, suspecting he'd land after a good meter or more was placed between them, he desperately generated a writhing mass of purple waves into his grasping hand. He didn't have much experience with projectiles, but, he felt like projectiles made from his own power were a bit easier to control.

Still, he wanted to be on the ground when he launched it. Just as he graced the ground, a fair 3 meters away from the ax-swinging maniac, he slung the volatile waves forward, getting off a rather sloppy shot that may or may not hit.

He wasn't even going to try blaming that on the rage's effect on his mind; in general, he was a bad shot. He just knew that it was better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. That, and it kept his enemies guessing.

Now, the only other virus that was still in his sights were - wait. Where'd the statue go?

The waves in front of him shimmered, as the Virus in question suddenly appeared. Wide eyed and arms thrown back, he didn't have much time to think.

Thankfully, that was his specialty. His keen senses, versatility and adrenaline all went into high gear.

In a blink, the Murian had grabbed his longer sword with both hands, channeling some of the dark aura out of it. The sword shrunk into a one-meter, broader version of itself. Still grasping the weapon, he drained it still, breaking the weapon down into its base form - a pair of thin, one-meter long marauding blades. Grunting, he thrust one of his swords forward, holding it perpendicular to the other's; his second sword was held behind him.

This wasn't new to him. He knew what he was capable of, and knew even better how to utilize it in the best way possible. He liked to think that the power of the Murians running through his veins, amplified by the Indie Proof, was only fueling the fires of his battle prowess.

As steel struck silver, a slight clang was heard before it all happened. The Virus' blade struck his, and, as the sound rang out, Shade whirled around like a typhoon, bringing his other weapon around as he spun and lashed out at the previously stone warrior.

He huffed, feeling his head starting to clear up a bit. "I don't like surprises."

We will have access to Battle Cards soon, Ken. Get ready; the battle picks up from here.

He grinned, grateful for his Wizard's report. He saw the small circle in his visor that held his battle card data lose its red tint, going into a clear sight of his data. His Wizard had picked him out some cards that he recognized; a few he hadn't really used before. He was apparently preparing for a long, drawn-out battle. No need to use his strongest moves so soon. Good on him, for looking that far ahead.

Ken didn't like worrying about the Custom.

His own sword, though, regardless of whether or not it hit, wouldn't be enough to kill the thing, though. He crossed his two weapons in front of him, into an X, with a good idea on how to fix that problem. Swinging his arms back out, he created a very lethal pair of scissors.

The fact that these viruses, for the most part, depicted Warriors of some kind was appealing to him. It led him to believe that the spirits of his people attracted alike viruses, which just went as far to show how strong they were.

And that they still lingered. He was here for that very purpose.

Two figures face off in a field of flowers. They stare into each others' eyes, a hand on their sheathes, their other hand dancing over their hilts. A breeze blows as the sun sets, tickling the trees, caressing the flowers. A single petal floats into the air, passing between the figures. A flurry of movement; the figures rush, draw, slash, sheathe all in passing. The world falls silent for a moment. A figure suddenly slumps over.

This scene is repeated time and time again through history. Ancient Rome. Feudal Electopia. Modern Netopia.

But what happened to the Monosword was a little different. There was no signal to move, no squareoff. Simply a slash - blocked - and then, as he paused, a counter attack.

Like the scottish sword-armed virus, the footsoldier fell to the Wave Warrior. In the very last moment, Monosword turned its head. The general had fallen... fallen to a haudoken. Nothing, save for his helmet, remained.

And so the Monosword passed from one world to the next, leaving the fight to one last lone hero.

Peek-a-boo.

Materializing, the Peek-a-boo opened its mouth and screamed shrilly, an attack that twisted even the air around it.

His efforts thus far weren't in vain. So far, the battle appeared to be turning in his favor.

When the two viruses fell to his respective attacks, though, the first thing he became intent on doing was to speed up his custom. He was a warrior built on speed; without his battlecards, his attacks could run him thin. So, he downloaded the Data from Quick Gauge immediately - the speed that came with it was felt instantly.

And, then, his regrets were voiced as his eyes widened. He had forgotten all about the ghost-like virus; the one who had disappeared, at the very beginning. Spinning around, he turned just in time to find the virus turning towards him and blasting a wave of sound at him; creating an eerie sound as he did.

He sounded like a pained child, he though, as the wave washed over him. It was too late, for him to move out of the way of it; even his speed wouldn't help him. He had never encountered this virus before, and wasn't sure what it could do to him.

It was immediately felt in his now perpetual lack of movement. And, so, there he was, paralyzed.

The wave warrior wouldn't be paralyzed for long. Once, he would be frozen in place for entire seconds. But the gods - or at least, those with technical prowess to fiddle with virus data - nerfed it, and so, there was only the smallest of opportunity.

Peek-a-boo faded and disappeared, moving away from its position.

It had done the job assigned to it: to delay, to stall, to buy time. The comrades it had were no more. Maybe it felt lonely, or maybe it was scheming; it just vanished from the battlefield entirely.

What, then? Was that it?

No. The universe is never quiet, never still. The viruses never stop coming.

The wave warrior would find himself able to move again, and even have a moment to himself. But soon enough, they arrived.

The first was the hot-headed, mechanical shocktrooper: Dlxscorcher. Its legs and torso were reflective silver... or maybe they were only reflective because it was so hot. Where a head should connect to neck were merely two glowing holes and flame. A left arm hung uselessly at its side. Its right arm ended just below the elbow, turning into a barrel. Flame licked out of it in an excited manner.

Beside it, a manhole cover left a green trail of goop as it marched forward.

Behind them, two, blue turret stands appeared, heads tilted in curiousity... or maybe tilted to aim around their compatriots.

Whatever opportunity the virus hoped to open up for himself was loss when it whisked away. His eyes still capturing and understanding, Shade found himself immobile for but an instant longer before the feeling returned to his limbs and the chill of the Bermuda Maze rushed back over him.

Tightening the grip on his dual swords, he took this moment to gather himself. His mission was to get to the center; he didn't expect it to be easy. Still, this was the first time he had ever been paralyzed - he'd been blinded multiple times before, and found it infuriated him on multiple levels, but, never paralyzed. It was a strange feeling; the feeling that came with all of your ability to physically feel suddenly being sapped away from your body. It wasn't something he'd want to repeat. He wasn't sure where the ghost had gone, but, he wouldn't let himself forget about him so easily.

In that brief time he had to himself, the viruses kept coming. The electrified air wasn't unlike how it was on Mu, all those days ago. They came after him. This bunch. . .it wasn't much like the last. Very few actual warriors, with more gunners and sneaky manholes. He'd never seen viruses like them, before. . .of course, he's never really gone out looking for viruses. They were never his cup of tea.

Of course, that was before he realized that they could be a lot of fun to fight. Even better testing dummies for his not-so-new abilities.

The closest enemy was the round robot with a fiery design, flames licking just in front of his buster-arm. Shade studied it for a second, before he melded his two swords back into one, almost without thought. Holding his old friend in his right hand, he once again willed its wave structure to change - this time, changing the weapon so that the blade was attached to a three meter chain. He may not be very good with ranged weapons, but, this wasn't a projectile - in fact, he knew how to use it rather well. The chain only gave it a little extra weight, and plenty of maneuverability. He also noted that an imperceptible aura of darkness hung around it, making the weapon seem sharper and metal colder. He knew that his transformation was empowering it. . .

He turned on his heel, so that he was facing forward, bringing his sword up and around as he turned. The chain yanked taught at the apex of its arc, and, when he swung it hurling back down, he angled his arm to the side, bringing the weapon down in a somewhat diagonal arc that ended in a vertical slash.

"One slash!" he exclaimed with a grin.

His chain gave him some breathing space if he needed it, and gave him something other than his pulse cannon to rely on.

Not like he was any good with that cannon anyways, but, he still had it.

For good measure, he quickly flicked his wrist backwards, swinging the sword backwards on the path it just followed. When the sword returned to its peak just above him, the chain retracted in on itself, practically disappearing into the crossguard before the sword reattached itself.

"Two slashes!" he declared, like an auctioneer. Whether or not the death was sold, he didn't know yet.

His next targets were the mounted turrets at the edge of the battlefield. They were straight ahead on the Wave Road, so, he needed to be heading that way, anyways. Not like they could move much. . .right?

He took it on with a running start, taking a death-run past the possibly-still-alive-and-now-slightly-angry-pyromaniac with his rather impressive speed, before coming to a careful stop just a few meters in front of the turrets. Holding out his right hand, which he swiftly emptied, beside his left one, he watched as a large ax formed itself in his grasp. This, too, had a slight, dark aura about it.

Gripping the ax with both hands and, for once, using it for what it was intended for, he held the ax behind him and made a wild out-lash with it, spinning about and letting the ax carry its weight. The arc would carry it towards both of the turrets. Could they get away from it?

That didn't matter. It was a pretty heavy weapon, and he wasn't used to those. He was about to make a fool of himself; sure, he had used the weapon before, but, never like this. Mu forbid he used the weapon for what it was actually meant for! The weight of the weapon continued to carry him about, like he knew it would, and, he ended up slashing up the road and sending up sparks before he found himself on his bum. He was hurting, stars were flying and he was certain his cheeks were flushed.

He put a hand to his head, momentarily releasing the ax. "That. . .that, I could've lived without."

The blade-wielding, bumrushing, ax-swinging Wave Warrior did not realize that these were not your normal mechanical machinegunning monstrosities. Their heads separated from their base, lifting in the air to avoid the deadly blade.

For his troubles, the virii released a twin hail of bullets.

Dlxscorcher had fallen.

The manhole cover lifted, a massive snot forming under it. It shook, sending a stream of goop toward the wave warrior. And another stream. And a third.

The ax swung, and their heads did go flying.

But not because the ax hit them.

"Excuse me?" he let out, glaring at the flying turret heads. "Well, isn't that annoying," he stated more thank asked, going to support himself in order to stand up. Before he could move, though, he heard a whirring sound, and, when he looked back up, was greeted with the two turrets getting ready to fire!

This was why he hated guns.

Wide-eyed and adrenaline pumping, Shade instead rolled to the side and out of the way of the hail of bullets. To finish his roll, he lifted his body up and ended up in a crouched position. He quickly stood up, glaring around to see if there was any other funny business to deal with.

After looking about, though, he realized that his adrenaline wasn't the only thing that came rushing back to him. As his adrenaline sort of faded away, it gave way to an anger that he recognized well. It was his primal anger, wrought from something deep within. For now, it didn't need to be sated. Soon, though, it would become impossible to function without.

His eyes landed on the manhole cover that suddenly popped up, revealing a strange creature from underneath. The creature shook, blasting stream after stream of goop at him. The first hit home in his sudden surprise, but, he wasn't going to stick around for the next two to hit.

He shifted to the right, taking a step before he realized that he was absolutely covered in mucky, filthy and questionably sticky water. He held out his arms in disgust, before thinking of the perfect way to get rid of it.

He disappeared. The muck fell to the ground, as Shade reappeared in front of the man-hole cover. In his right hand, instead of his ax, he held a curved machete, which he gladly used to give the goop-slinger a slash across the face. Then, he disappeared and reappeared in front of the first floating turret, and then the second, giving them the same treatment.

He vanished once again, reappearing in the exact location he started. He stepped out of the muck, turning his back on the manhole cover to get some well-earned revenge on the flying turrets.

"Who in the name of Mu came up with flying turrets?" he grumbled as he dashed back in front of them, now brandishing his signature weapon once again. Back on its chain, he came to a stop just a meter away and swung the chained weapon forward, hoping to catch the both of them in its wide arc, taking a quick step forward before going in for a second strike.

Yeah, it was pretty darn personal, now.

The goopy monster attempted to duck, losing a bit of its body to the sudden slash. A spray of liquid flew backwards as it reverted to puddle form, nothing more than a manhole cover.

The turrets did not fare well. Slashed by the sword blade, they flew backward, before they returned to their stands.

Then came the chained sword, reaping one of the turrets. The other managed to fly clear, returning fire yet again.

And that's when it reappeared. The peek-a-boo appeared in the place of the fallen turret, mouth opening. The very air rumbled in protest of the Wave Warrior.

Shade's blood started pumping again, and, when the other turret suddenly flew away, he chased after it. He darted out of the way of the single bullet, before going on a full-run at the thing. He wasn't sure why, but, he had no tolerance left within him for that abomination of a flying gun.

As Shade ran after the flying turret, the dark aura around his signature weapon intensified. The aura shifted from around the weapon to cover a space about twice the size of the normal blade, and, the weapon within shifted to match that new size. The weapon that marked his true power, forming itself of its own volition - he kind of liked that.

As the space between him and the flying gun was cleared, he jumped out of his run and into the air, arcing the weapon behind him before bringing it crashing down at the virus, roaring in rage. He landed without flaw on the ground below, using his free hand to ground himself before he landed. His sword was before him, still fluctuating with energy, just before it shifted back to his normal weapon of one meter.

His anger and thirst for a kill left him as soon as it came over him, once again without explanation nor a trace. He slowly stood back up, noting that this. . .desire. . .of his was a lot alike his blood lust in his wolf form. Of course, it was also a lot like the blood lust of his ancestors. Once he found out which one for certain it came from, it'd be easier to deal with - going out of control like that on the battlefield just for a strike was a little worrying.

What wasn't a little worrying, though, was that the ghost thing had reappeared, again. His senses were on high alert, and he wasn't going to let that thing hit him again. He whirled around as soon as he heard the screech, his hand crafting what he wanted before his instincts told him what he'd need. Using his Wave Converter, he quickly converted some waves in the area into Darklight Waves, creating a meter diameter sphere of it into his hand that he launched back at the ghostie. The mass flew effortlessly through the circling waves, like hoops for it to fly through. He wasn't fast enough to get away from them, though.

The waves still hit their mark, but, not before Shade could fire his own attack through. His nerves freezing up and refusing to obey, he stood there, without motion, only his eyes moving to study the battlefield.

Watching. Waiting.

Neither the cannon nor the fur-covered, cosplaying, perverted monster survived. The sword slash fell the furious turret, scattered it into a dozen parts. The accelerated ball of energy accounted for the hide-and-seek player, which left...

The giant snot monster to rise once more.

It spat, with some sort of anger, a series of snotballs. Or goopballs. Slimy sewage in a convenient gelatinous liquid form.

His limbs locked up and refusing to work, Shade had to stand there as the virus dumped goop on him from above. The barrage sent adrenaline through his system, and, as his blood started pumping, he felt the relief of the tension on his limbs. He gave a good shake; both to rid himself of the goop and to stretch his strained muscles.

And, then, he was gone. The world turned into a blur around Shade as he vanished from one spot and reappeared in another; directly in front of the virus, brandishing a new toy.

Kage had slotted in his custom, so, he hadn't a clue what this thing was. All he knew was that the macro pike was conducting electricity; he executed a flurry of stabs at the virus, and, despite how much it looked like a sword, didn't feel the normal surge of energy he got while wielding one.

As he finished, he took a few bounding steps into the darkness of the Maze, hoping to make some distance before the next wave appeared.

The first strike blinded the virus. The second exploded it in a beautiful spray of strange liquid. The mighty Goopy was reduced to but a metal disc, clattering to the ground. And into the darkness the Wave Warrior would disappear...

A horrible din erupted in the darkness, a distant light flashing on and off. A very deep voice appeared to be making drum sounds. If the Wave Warrior investigated- or if he waited long enough - he'd see who it was coming from: a massive, black suit of armor, shoulder pads purple, denoting its rank. It had a big damn axe balanced on its shoulder, and it was marching.

Marching towards the wave signature of the Wave Warrior.

Behind it were the three amigos. In the center, a dragon's head on a pillar of yellow, pulsing ring-like platforms. To the Axe wielder's rear left, a dark gray figure bearing a sword and shield. Red lines with wee little red circles in them seemed to be actively moving data like some sort of vein. And on the other side of the dragon, a ssssmall snake.

The group halted. The shield bearer lowered the shield, a small port in its chest opening. A thin beam of light escaped, piercing towards the wave warrior.

And the dragon trembled, seeming to charge energy...

The snake continued, ssssstealthily charging ssssolo towards the Wave Warrior.

And the big man simply shrugged.
