"Well, that was disappointing..."

A somewhat-disgruntled crowd now disperses from around an archaic building on the edge of Okuduma Studios' property boundary, as the red rays of the afternoon sunset bathe the parking lot in a crimson glow. Today was supposed to be a special day - the grand reopening of DenStudio 8, legendary in its time as the center of one of the largest media empires in all of Electopia. While the run-down property once sat on the borders of the city, decaying and unused, Okuduma has recently purchased the land and refurbished the main studio into a grand live performance theater, tonight marking its grand debut!

...Or it would have, if the star of the opening show had bothered to show up. A master of digital illusions was slated to oversee a grand display in front of an audience of thousands, only to cancel his arrival at the last minute to the disappointment of many. The event planners now scramble to salvage the show, desperately calling upon every resource and performer Okuduma has to offer... but some people just cannot be bothered to stick around.

"Such a shame, my grandfather used to tell me about the glory days of DenStudio 8 all the time... I was looking forward to this, Henry. This was a piece of history, reborn..."
"Oh, don't be that way! They only need to reschedule for another time, I'm sure this isn't the end..."
"Yeahh... this wasn't the best first impression of Electopia, though. And Minni was looking forward t-... where is she?"
"Huh? She's righ- Oh, not again! Minerva!!"
"She must've slipped off back into the theater! Come on, she can't have gotten far this time!"

And so begins the frantic escapades of two young men on vacation from Netopia, fighting their way back through the crowds in search of their ever-mischievous adopted daughter...

...Who has just picked her way through a padlocked, rusted gate on the rear of the building. Replacing her skull-marked hairpin into that monstrosity of a hairdo, Minerva Garadi-Crinis silently giggles to herself as she pushes her way into the unrestored exterior lot of DenStudio 8, sealed off to the public due to not being fully renovated yet. A crumbling ruin untouched by human hands for two hundred years...

The trees rustle at every movement the crowd makes. Nothing less of the master within can sense such a presence in a small group. One in which who did not have proper authorization, like the girl now wandering so helplessly inside. He, however, knew well what he wanted. This was his chance. This was his shining day.

Time to let the world know the name Teski.

As the men approached the end of the gate where the daughter had entered, they would be met with the now fading silhouette of a tall man, skin and bones at that. His height and unnatural build made it difficult to focus on, but his body was clearly covered in some traditional gear. A haori over his body, hakama covering his legs and wooden sandals to top it off, not even making a noise as he stepped. He would stop, looking back with a glare so sharp, that it could perhaps be perceived even beyond the darkness. He turned back around and kept moving.

He proceeded at this pace to see what the girl would find first, and to keep himself out of harm's way. Once she were to discover something deadly, or something she was not to see, he would swoop in and save her. That was this whole plan. He kept his Hunter VG hidden inside his Haori's inner pocket, ready to smack his chest to initiate a Wave Conversion if needed. He was unsure what this girl was capable of, given her outlandish style. He threw his voice to the girl, in hopes of inspiring some sort of feeling of fear or ambiance, to draw her out and bring her back, seeing as how this place was no more dangerous than any other.

"Dear child... The shrouded path beckons..."

"Dammit, I'll bet she went to try and sneak into the dressing rooms or something..."
"She gets it from you, y'know. Who else would go out of their way to mess around backstage like this?"
"Anybody with a sense of wonder or fun!!"
"Sigh..."

"Hehehe..."

Styled-and-dyed purple twin-tails bounce behind the girl's shoulders as she makes her way into parts both unknown and forbidden. Even as she forces her way into the first abandoned building she reaches, Minerva has already stumbled across what she would consider a treasure trove. The indescribable musty odor of rotting infrastructure as nature retakes the wood usurped by man to construct this crude shelter, a coat of gray and white covering every exposed surface with the dust of centuries, sunlight creeping in through a lone hole in the roof... a cluster of green-leafed ivies has overtaken a support pillar, entangling the wall in a web of vines. Tiny tracks in the dust suggest that Minerva is not alone in here - all manner of adorable rodents and vermin likely call this place their home nowadays... as do countless abandoned secrets, such as that dusty little changepurse full of old coins on that crumbling table. Booty is half the fun of exploring, after all! The floor creaks with every step Minerva takes in her sturdy, heavy boots - investigation reveals that the tiled floor was actually layered over a regular hardwood floor, likely following some sort of extensive renovation all those decades ago. Several of those boards are starting to rot and fall away as well - best to stay away from those spots lest they crumble away.

So thinks Minerva, sharp as ever, as she circles around a bare patch of rotting boards... only for the tiled floor in front of her to suddenly fall out from under her boots! Such is the din of the collapsing infrastructure that she never hears the bizarre whispers from deeper in the building, as she is far too busy clinging to the edge of the crumbling floor, staring down into the... spacious basement below?

"Oof! Why, hellooooo~..."

The upper floor can wait - ceiling collapses have blocked off most of it anyway. Carefully lowering herself down the hole first, Minerva releases the edge and drops a good six feet to the solid floor below, striking a neat landing. The basement is pitch-black... fortunately, that's what a keychain lantern is for. The small free-hanging light is an ornamental design that sheds light around itself, rather than casting a concentrated beam like a traditional flashlight - not quite as effective at dispelling the darkness, but at the same time far more comfortable to use... for Minerva, anyway. And in any case, it should more than suffice...

Little does she or her unseen watcher know, something else now stirs, deeper in the bowels of the underground structure...

"You fool! Don't-!"

The whispers became a shout from behind the girl. Zukaashimato broke into a sprint, trying to catch up to Minerva. His sandals now clicking along the deprecated wooden floor. His heart raced, and it seemed like this world was slowing down. He could see her... Lowering down. With a slide and rolling stop, he would gallantly fall in front of the teen. The full grown hero, now seemingly stuck down in this basement with her.

He would slowly rise, right in her light. Clear as day. He attempted to save her it seemed, but sadly, fell short. He pivoted slightly, to turn and look over his shoulder to the girl. Dirt and dust grinding under his foot. He would then whip out his Hunter VG, enabling the flashlight to help illuminate the dark. His furrowed brow clearly showing his disappointment.

"You." the ninja now turned to face her fully. turning off the light for now. Her lantern was enough, it seemed. The crude flashlight keychain sufficed. He was used to the shadows, anyways. "Why did you come here?"

"!?"

The average teenager would probably show something vaguely resembling shock or terror upon being surprised in a creepy basement of an abandoned building by a ninja dropping from the ceiling. And indeed, there is a tense, awkward silence... as this outlandishly-dressed girl reaches for a small object holstered in the chained belt around her waist. A tech-savvy individual might recognize the device she now taps upon as a Star Carrier - a particularly old model of Portable Wave Terminal, quite obsolete by this day and age, but nonetheless capable of basic holoprojection. And the little glowing-blue window that now hovers over the tiny terminal appears to be... a checklist? Or some sort of stylized BINGO card?

"Yes! I never get to fill in the Ninja square, I knew this was a great idea!"

...Checking off a square depicting a man dressed from head to toe in black holding a katana above his head, the girl sets her Star Carrier to standby before placing it back in its holster. She doesn't seem nearly as concerned about this turn of events as she should...

"...Waitwaitwait, this is a film studio, I have to be sure you're a real ninja. For all I know, you could just be- ...hey! Are you the missing actor that they cancelled the show over?"

"I am no actor, but Ninja? More like a shinobi."

A bingo card. Great. Some other gimmicky bucket list that kids got into nowadays. She was naive, bubbly, it seemed. This was no place for her to be. He was getting ready to wave converge. His own Hunter VG flipped open, he began to punch in a few digits. He was rescuing a little girl, as he saw it. He might as well tickle her fancy a bit with showing her what a real ninja was.

"Transcode 291! Silent Kitakaze!"

He would enter his voice verification to now converge. Slowly, his body began to digitalize, and before he knew it, he was now a true ninja. Just like her checklist had shown. He was visible to the naked eye, despite his EM Composition. With a slow nod, he would gesture for her to follow him.

"We are going to leave here, it could be dangerous."

"W-Whoa..."

This just keeps getting more and more interesting! Until now, Minerva has only heard about the nigh-mythical 'Wave Warriors' from news reports and stories from abroad. Men and women who, through various means, possessed the power to digitize themselves and attain nigh absolute power as EM entities in a world invisible to the naked eye... of course, with plenty of excuses as to why people were able to see them from time to time. She wonders what this one's reasons are...

"...So, do you live down here or something? I was hoping this place was actually abandoned like they said, I've read so many stories about this place... none of them involved ninjas, though. Anyway, I'm not going anywhere - we paid for the show tonight, and if the performers are gonna bail on everyone, I'm settling for souvenir-hunting! If I find something cool down here to bring back up, our trip won't be ruined by this mess!"

Huh. So that WAS a foreign accent he detected - this girl is Netopian, likely from one of the eastern rural provinces. And has an attitude to match, it would seem - the thumping of heavy boots heralds her passage as she walks right by the posing ninja...

[Energy signature detected... Dimensional tracer 52% match. Monitoring...]

...And that's when the Silent Kitakaze can both hear and sense a bizarre presence. An EM Virus is nearby?

'EM Signature acquired. Hostile detected.'

From within the waves that comprised the very ninja before Minerva, Alto spoke out. It's constant scans to protect it's human had found highly volatile EM signatures, archaic almost. Alerting him, it repeated.

'EM Signature acquired. Hostile detected.'

"Child... Get behind me."

The (not-so) Silent Kitakaze drew his katana with a muffled screech of metal, the weapon coming out with very little to no noise. His swift step gallantly forced him to Minerva's side. He wasn't going to let an innocent human being get hurt. An innocent was never to be hurt in his presence, a vow he took long ago, before he began training for real.

He was looking around, visual HUD adapted from Alto's presence allowing him to read any current waves in the area. It wasn't nightvision, not even close, but he was ready for whatever was here... Ready to fight. Ready to defend.

"Wait, what?"

For the next few moments, there is naught but a tense, awkward silence... this does not change whatsoever for the forseeable future. Whatever the Silent Kitakaze can sense, it is content to watch and observe. He can definitely sense it moving about, whatever it is... it's quick, and clearly knows the area well enough to avoid the eyes of any would-be intruders...

"...Y'know, people might take you more seriously if you actually tell them what's going on."

"Something lurks, and it is moving! Alto! Track it!"

A palm extended from the blade wielding ninja summoned his trusty companion. The single eyed blob of mist let it's scanning, orb-like eye spin rapidly in the area, trying to discover what it was that lurked in the darkness. Meanwhile, the ninja drew closer to the girl in the room. She was, in essence, the VIP of some twisted escort mission in a video game. However, the few times he played a game, there was a second chance there.

Not here.

He drew a smoke bomb in his off hand, waiting for Alto to pinpoint the moving creature, ready to strike at any moment.

More tense silence, and still nothing... every time Alto gets a good read on the target's readings, it vanishes just as quickly. This thing, whatever it is, is no stranger to being hunted, and in turn evading detection and pursuit. It is toying with him... his protected charge, on the other hand, is having none of this.

"...Well, of COURSE there's stuff lurking down here. It's been abandoned for a really long time, you never know what's going to take up residence. Have you never gone exploring before?"

And with that, the girl noisily tromps on ahead, completely ignoring the ninja's attempts to stay close. Oddly enough, whatever he's detecting seems to be retreating from the area as she moves deeper in...

"Whatever it is, it's more scared of us than you are of it. Just keep an eye out for a nest or something, I kinda want to see what it is now. I could take some pictures when we find it, too!"

"It's comprised of EM Waves, you brat."

The ninja followed her steps carefully, and close at that, Alto only naturally hovered along, too. It's single eye kept track of the wandering creature in the midst. Every time it moved, Alto would make a slight 'ding!' noise, and begin to try again. Despite Kitakaze's steps being quiet, the dust under his feet seemed to crunch slightly, which was eerie considering the creature wasn't making any noise. Putting away his smoke bomb, he vouched to use two hands instead of one on his katana.

"Every time that wizard beeps, it lost track of it. This thing's jumping around."

With her want to find a 'nest' now, he thought, rectified, he moved quickly to where her shadow might be, following every movement. She was going to get what she needed, and he would get her out, have the stolen goods returned, and leave. That was his plan here, at least.

"Whatever it is, it is smart. If it understands us, it might as well surrender. I am not going to let you be harmed here."

"...Is this why ninjas always hide? Because they're scared of every little thing they can't see?"

...She's making it rather clear that despite his supposedly-noble intentions, the ninja is being more of a nuisance than a help right now. Ninjas are cool and all, but a clingy hero-type is a very special sort of buzzkill, especially when they're the only ones who are scared.

"Maybe we're not dealing with an actual animal if it's 'made of EM waves', but it's sure acting like one from what you're saying. It clearly wants to stay out of sight, and you're just ticking it off by scanning for it or whatever you're doing... hey!"

The girl suddenly zips ahead of Kitakaze and off to the left, crouching down to examine something on the floor... that 'something' being the approximate shape, size, color, and overall construction of a human skull. A well-polished and preserved human skull, at that...

"...Cool!"

"No, we strike first, and from the cold shadow."

Kitakaze, seeing no further point to protect this brat now put away his weapon, cancelling his wave conversion. With a halfway sneer, he said something to Minerva, something he'd hope she'd take to heart. If not, he might be exposed for good.

"What you saw me do, what I became, you will tell no one. It is a secret I will do anything to keep. I felt this EM waved creature that moves with us was initially hostile. It seems to be shy as you've stated."

Now Zukaashimato again, he would continue subtle words and hints in another language. He was muttering to himself various things, it seemed. In reality, he was telling Alto in his native tongue to keep an eye on things, no pun intended. Until they found the skull...

"Hmph. Looks intact. Could fetch a nice price."

And suddenly, the girl whirls around on her heel, suddenly quite upset and right up in Zuka's face...

"Whoa whoa WHOA. Not cool. Human remains are NOT for sale, that's disrespecting the dead!"

Out of the corner of his eye, as he receives a verbal lashing from a would-be juvenile delinquent regarding the sanctity of final rest, Zuka may notice what appears to be a glistening purple... something reaching out of the shadows, wrapping around the skull and pulling it out of view...

"Then ask whatever took that skull."

Zukaashimato prepared his Hunter VG again. Shining a light towards the direction of the skull. He was intending for what he had said to be for historical donation with 'bonus' but... She took his word the wrong way. Alto was going crazy, staying stationary as it began saying...

'Alert! Alert! Unidentified creature spoted! Alert! Alert!'

"Alto! Converge!"

With that, he was the Silent Kitakaze again, and with a swift step, he moved in front of Minerva again. Eyes moving vigorously across the room, tracking whatever had just moved again. If it was the same creature moving around and around, he would body block the best he could, trying to defend the girl.

"Don't panic, child. If you have a wizard, get them ready for battle. We end these shenanigans here."

"Are you always this on-edge!?"

As luck would have it, this yet-unnamed teen does not possess a Hunter-VG, let alone a Wizard... she DOES own a Star Carrier, which possesses a rudimentary Card Attack Proxy, but she is thus far nowhere near inclined to actually use it. Indeed, she's really starting to run out of patience for this guy's overprotective, creepy, frankly psychotic antics, and is now just walking around him in an attempt to stay far, far ahead.

"Look, if all you're going to do down here is antagonize the wildlife and get in my way, I'm going on ahead. I dunno if this thing you're after is actually hostile, but if you keep following me, I'm gonna consider taking its side when a fight breaks out!"

Of course, a true ninja never takes his eyes off of his quarry. And from the shadows, Kitakaze can now see a faint reddish glow - two distinct red pinpricks, like eyes...

"I seeee you~..."

The ninja seemed to tease, pointing his blade at the pinpricks, showing his knowledge of his foe's location. Kitakaze was going to destroy this thing. Once and for all. He was done with it's games. Darting forward with Uchigatana held high, he slashed at the darkness, attempting to trace it's movements with Alto's help... His footwork was incredible, and his style almost as if a dance, swinging in such a manner that could be very well fatal for whatever it was in the shadows. He was a master of such things, there was no way something in the shadows like he could hide forever.

*Clang!* Metal strikes upon metal, as Kitakaze's weapon clashes against... a solid steel beam, likely used in the construction of this building. The twelve-foot long I-beam is quite rusted, probably weighs a solid half-ton, and appears to be suspended in the air by... what the hell is that?

"Uh... mister ninja, I think I can see it now..."

The faint crimson glow suddenly erupts into a blinding red radiance, the shadows parting and receding from the spreading light. Kitakaze now finds himself face-to-face with a truly alien entity - a translucent mass of purple, its exact dimensions unknowable due to the way it twists and warps with each passing second. Its body appears to be naught but liquid, suspended and manipulated into twisting tendrils rising from the decrepit floorboards below. Three of these tendrils wrap around the steel beam that has just been used to parry Kitakaze's blade, lifting it into the air as if it were completely weightless - this creature is quite physically strong, whatever it is. Another tendril suspends the glowing red sphere that now sheds light upon the basement... and in fact, seems to surround it entirely, as if the red-tinted globe is inside the liquid tentacle. And the last of them now stretches forth to hover inches away from Kitakaze's face, what appears to be a jagged metal mask crafted from a dismantled bear trap mounted upon its bulbous tip.

For obvious reasons, the girl is keeping her distance from what is now unfolding...

"You know, you could've just taken the child's advice and come out of this without being beaten within an inch of your life. But 'heroes' never change, do they?"
"It... it can talk!?"
"You will be addressed in a moment, girl - I prefer to deal with visitors in ascending order of intelligence."

And with that, the purple tentacles wind around each other to secure their grip around their improvised weapon, the I-beam rearing back before swinging downward, with the intent of simply smashing this annoying pest into a fine, gory paste!

With a swift back handspring, the ninja leaped away from the beam, ignoring the fact that mask had moved in his face. Silent now, he landed with very little audible noise. The creature's pretentious nature was getting him angry. Beaten in an inch of his life? Bah, like it could even touch him. For now, he kept somewhat close to the creature, trying to gauge it's abilities. He fished into one of his pouches and chucked a smoke bomb at the creature's face, in hopes of blinding it with the substances and waves contained within. No words were uttered the entire time.

Not even a huff.
