Assignment 1: Knowing SFRP's History

I hope my new students did their homework. I've devised this little quiz to see how much of SFRP's history you know so that you can improve upon our history instead of repeat it. You'll need to at least get a 70 on the quiz to get the mythical Omega Seal of Approval, so do your best. I'll even let it be an open book test.

You've got 1 week to reply with the answers. Anyone else can participate and do this if you want. You'll get 100z for each question you get right, and 200z for completely answering the Bonus question. Good luck.

EDIT: This'll be coming out of my own wallet, not thin air. And if you're staff, you don't get zenny (since it's way too easy for you guys to get the answers compared to everyone else).


Quiz 1: SFRP History
 
1. When and how was the Chaos element introduced? Who was the person who developed the idea?



2. How were OOPArts first introduced, and when did Tribe Ons get integrated into the battle system?



3. List all of the site wide plots that have been carried out on SFRP. Give a brief explanation of each plot.

5. Stage Manipulations were when you could change the stage (ex. Gravity Stage and Grass Stage). I guess it would be to help with battling?

7. Well Moderators that took it are DataNine, Chase the Swift, A-Coya, Lelouch vi Brittania... Oh and Alpha wanted to take the test, but not be staff adn then some dude named Dr. Knight also wanted to take it, but he was denied cuz he was new... Unfortunately I don't know what the test is, but i believe activity was involved.

4. UG and Assassins had their own respective mission boards where they could gain extra zenny and they had to gain fame points/increase their killing spree to increase in rank.

5. Stage Manipulations were when you could claim an are for yourself. They were for the old EMC class and you could get 2500 zenny as well add 500 zenny to your weekly paycheck.

7. The three tests were handling forum operations, members, and develop new ideas. Activity was also important. A-Coya and Lelouch took the test. A-Coya had participated in a registration thread where she had to mod that. Don't know any other specifics.

8. You guys were apparently going through hell creating the damage scale. It's purpose was to make battling more defined as attacks used to have relative values rather than have concrete numbers which could cause some confusion.

Access to all stores and special missions that dealt extra zenny. Kill streaks were required to rank up.

Area claims; get money for running areas.

Make a more relative system for better battling because concrete damage confused people, and too undefined wasn't very canon.

The Chaos element was introduced in 2008; the first user, or lab rat, was Lastdesire who integrated Chaos to create Chaos Exa. Chaos was originally developed to finish the Holy Trinity, which replaced the old Light-and-Dark-are-weak-vs-eachother system. Chaos was originally proposed by Beserk, busy guy.


2. How were OOPArts first introduced, and when did Tribe Ons get integrated into the battle system?
OOParts were first introduced as a staff plot; Tribe Ons were added in late 2007 in the style of the Admin Cards, allowing the user to change the charge shot and primary element while in battle.

3. Give a brief history of Noise Forms in the forum, as well as describe how it's changed.
The Noise Forms Announcement
Noise forms were announced in Fall 2010 by Torchman - they consisted of the ten NPC forms that were acquired after obtaining a Noise Program. You could change forms after fifty posts, and were given to a single charachter - one form per PC. BBs between a players PC did not grant a Multi-Noise. Currently, there are custom forms created by members, but they will not be available much longer.

4. What was so special about the UG and the Assassins during the V2 era? What major perks did these two factions have over the others?
UGs and Assassins had seperate boards, and got paid for stopping killings/committing killings, respectively. UGs also had higher base salaries.


5. What are Stage Manipulations, and what was their purpose?
Changing panels to form weapons, traps or just give an advantage to the player.


6. Describe the old Mission Board and explain why it was removed.
The mission board was like a Kickstarter for hiring mercs to take down fellow players; removed due to it's negative effect on play activity.

Forum Operations, Interactions and Development were the tests; among those who were involved were Acoya and DataNine.


8. Describe how the current numerical damage scale was created and why.
The current damage scale was created by Omega so people wouldn't be confused by relative damage and descriptions in battle (Non-RP).


9. Why were Aspects included within Mega card descriptions?

Mega Cards also have what are called Aspects. Aspects allow you to use the abilities of an NPC rather than summon one for you to use. Aspect abilities are slightly different from the Summon abilities, allowing for more RP flexibility. When using the Aspect your character will perform the attack them-self in some manor rather than summoning the NPC. You have the choice to either use the Summon ability or the Aspect ability of Mega cards, although you cannot use both. When choosing to summon, the NPC that is created is not harmed by attacks. All attacks simply phase through the NPC without negating or being affected. Whatever part of the NPC is attacking, however, can both block and hurt you on contact.


Aspects were essentially bonus noise forms allowing them to morph into an NPC or - while there were custom megas - into a fellow player's wave form.

To ensure that all knew how to operate, newbs had to do "emailing, posting on a message board and then do a tutorial battle".

Omega took on the battle system, revamping it and adding the damage scale (he complained during a battle vs Silver in 2008 that the "damage scale was a CENSORED to make")

Beserk The man responsible for the various Elements and their abilities, Beserk was the man behind Chaos and the families.

Job History
 

In fall of 2008, Beserk announced the return of jobs and ranks. The classes were: Civilians who accepted missions from the mission board and could occupy/liberate. The GSP, our own official netbatttlers who stopped crime, liberated areas and stopped assassination attempts could rank from Class E to Class SS and had a minimum weekly salary of 1k zennies! EM Criminals can cause trouble and gain 2500z per incident - and get a bonus of 500z for each area occupied, and ranked from Rookie to Sinner. Weekly salary 1kz. The Mercs could take missions from any board - and got double pay. Weekly salary 2000z. The Unknown Guardians are like the Men in Black - they stop crime, rank up and can take missions too!Ranking from Rookie to Unknown Saint, they had a minimum salary of 1000z. The Assassins could be hired to kill NPCs, beat the snot out of a fellow player or kill off players entirely - and get a minimum 4k per take down. Ranking from Softy to Predator, with a minimum salary of 1000z. Incidentally, Lastdesire tried to sign up to be a killer while not having 50 posts. Hue hue hue.

NO STUDYING FUCK YEAH

1. Beserk worked on Chaos and introduced it to the forum, although it is better defined by Last and his famous twin duo Era and Yukihana, with Era being the source(I think). It was introduced to the Second cycle which only had Light and Dark at the time.

2. I reeeeaaallyyyy dunno

3. Noise has appeared and disappeared several times on the board, with the original noise system barely being defined nor refined at all, and eventually disappeared as well. Then in 2009/2010, Torchman took on the burden of assembling bits and pieces of the system worked on by staff through out the years, assembling it all into a coherent pile, and then refined it into a well oiled machine. It was then released to the public, with the 10 noise forms from the game and everything else! Afterwards, he proceeded to introduce Lyra and Auriga noise, while staff went without him and gave custom noises without comparing power levels to the canon NPC ones. As a result, there was an imbalance, and as Torch tried to balance the canon ones alone, it became clear the whole system would have to come in because the custom ones, as well as metagamers, were breaking/abusing the system. At this time, he is currently refining the system itself even more to account for the changes while trying to fix what was broken. He is not doing custom nor will he consider them until the main system and noise forms are done.

4. UG was pretty much the secret service/CIA/FBI of the site while assassins were mercenaries... that just killed all the time. A special perk both had was that they had a special board with jobs specifically just for them.

5. It was essentially based off of the BN5 Liberation missions. EMC tried to take over, GSP had to liberate those areas. You get reputation and a little money for being successful or successfully stopping one.

6. The mission board was essentially a board where people took on unique tasks and RP scenarios that broke so many RP laws it wasn't even funny. Ranging from bringing in BN characters(Pretty sure Protoman popped by in one), other video game characters(ie Sonic) or even movie/comic characters(Iron Man), they were overall just for fun and didn't really care for if it was breaking any continuities. They also gave some rewards on the side It was removed because it was very tasking on staff to do their own RPing while having to NPC these threads at the same time.

7. I know Lelouch, A-Coya, and iX did them. I know you were involved with a fake profile. The tests involved a newbies profile thread, coming up with ideas in staff, and possibly NPCing.

8. In order to begin the process of sending the hell into the unenjoyable hell hole that it is

It was created in order to create a concrete system that cards and character profiles went by and so that you didn't have people acting like they were superman and taking hits until their opponent went down. All in all, a step in the right direction to getting a concrete system in place and setting limits on how much characters could actually take.(I saw one of those threads. God damn boy should've been forced out after how much he took).

9. Aspects... Oh my favourite topic.

Before aspects came into play, the Lord and our Saviour Omega felt the Mega cards didn't belong and should be removed because he felt the summoning was out of place. His loyal servant Torch came up with the idea of aspects in order to appease our Lord Omega in order to prevent the removal of said cards, and the good Lord was pleased by Torch's idea. So Torch fleshed it out and defined an aspect for all canon Mega cards(except Acid Arrest, Shooting Star Rockman, and Tribe King), and thus they were introduced to the board with a happy Lord Omega's approval(who secretly still wants to removing the summoning aspect).

10. For the sake of helping beginners settle into the board who may not have had RP experience before coming here.

What each did, I dunno, but I know that any major edits or contributions were attributed to third gen staff. But I know Omega was the only one that loved us enough to stay on staff wilingly.

Changing panels to form weapons, traps or just give an advantage to the player. The purpose had been to give a player an advantage over an opponent.


6. Describe the old Mission Board and explain why it was removed.
The mission board was like a Kickstarter for hiring mercs to take down fellow players; removed due to it's negative effect on play activity.
The mission board had various missions for players to complete; from killing Sonic to chasing after a master thief, these were like the plots of the V2 era. Removed due to too much stress during the restructuring.

7. We tried having tests for mods to equip them for staff work. Name all of the different tests, their sections, and who participated in which tests.
Forum Operations, Interactions and Development were the tests; among those who were involved were Acoya, LeLouch and iX.


8. Describe how the current numerical damage scale was created and why.
The current damage scale was created by Omega so people wouldn't godmod and also to give people a real sense of damage.

9. Why were Aspects included within Mega card descriptions?

Mega Cards also have what are called Aspects. Aspects allow you to use the abilities of an NPC rather than summon one for you to use. Aspect abilities are slightly different from the Summon abilities, allowing for more RP flexibility. When using the Aspect your character will perform the attack them-self in some manor rather than summoning the NPC. You have the choice to either use the Summon ability or the Aspect ability of Mega cards, although you cannot use both. When choosing to summon, the NPC that is created is not harmed by attacks. All attacks simply phase through the NPC without negating or being affected. Whatever part of the NPC is attacking, however, can both block and hurt you on contact.


'mega thought that the summon part of the Mega Cards weren't fitting the game well, so the staff created Aspects to allow characters to perform an attack as an alternative to summoning a warrior. Still, the summoning threatens to bring down the 'Mega card class altogether from time to time.
10. Explain the purpose of the Hunter VG registration and the process associated with it.
To ensure that all knew how to operate, newbs had to do "emailing, posting on a message board and then do a tutorial battle".

BONUS: The Rules V2 was a collective work by several staff members. Who were the staff to finalize the rules V2, and what section did each of them write?

Omega took on the battle system, revamping it and adding the damage scale (he complained during a battle vs Silver in 2008 that the "damage scale was a CENSORED to make")
